K-12 Staff Preparedness Survey

In 2019, the NSSPA collected responses from K-12 staff members nationwide. The purpose was to see how prepared staff members are for an active shooter incident in their building. 

372 responses were submitted. 

96% conduct lockdown drills

90% are not well prepared for an active shooter Incident

85% indicated their school has a plan or established procedures for an active shooter incident

84% believe active shooter is a top threat

70% use the term active shooter drill in the place of lockdown drill

52% Have a school resource officer at their school

41% Have a threat assessment team

40% believe their school or district is prepared for an active shooter incident

25% Participated in active shooter training for staff members
