Over the past five years, the National Safety Security Protection Association (NSSPA) has achieved significant milestones in enhancing school security and public safety. Our accomplishments include hosting educational summits on school security, conducting extensive research, and providing recommendations to state legislative teams. We have developed accreditation standards for active shooter training and security vulnerability assessments, published numerous studies, and established key definitions in the field. Our team of experts, specializing in areas such as active shooter response, physical security, counterterrorism, architecture, psychology, emergency preparedness and planning, and security technology, has been instrumental in driving these initiatives forward. At our 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the National School Safety and Preparedness Association (NSSPA), we are deeply committed to the safety and security of our nation’s K-12 schools. Through a comprehensive approach that includes education, information, research, accreditation, and guidance, we work tirelessly to support our communities in creating safer learning environments.

The NSSPA unites a diverse group of experts and professionals from across the country, all dedicated to helping the public prevent, mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies, with a primary focus on K-12 schools. With over 131,000 private and public schools in the United States, serving 56 million students and employing 8 million staff members, our mission is to ensure that each and every one of you has the tools and knowledge needed to maintain a secure and prepared educational environment.

History

Founded in 2019 to address the growing need for comprehensive school safety, the National School Safety and Preparedness Association (NSSPA) has evolved into a leading voice in protecting K-12 institutions across the United States. From our early days, we have brought together experts from diverse fields to create a robust network dedicated to school safety. Over the years, NSSPA has expanded its reach and impact, providing critical resources, research, and guidance to help schools nationwide prevent and respond to emergencies effectively.
